Turkey Visa

All U.S. citizens traveling to Turkey need a Turkey visa. If you are a tourist, you can get a sticker visa valid for 90 days on arrival. The cost of a sticker visa is $20. If you are visiting Turkey for a reason other than tourism or you are staying for more than three months regardless of the purpose of your trip, you must obtain your travel visa before you leave.

When you arrive in Turkey, be sure to get an entry stamp in your passport. If you don’t, you may be detained when you try to leave the country. If you stay beyond the length of time permitted on your Turkey visa, you could be deported and fined, and you may not be allowed back in the country for a period of time. When applying for your visa, you must decide whether you need a single or multiple entry visa.

Single entry visas are valid for one year and allow the holder to stay up to three months, while multiple entry visas are valid for up to five years and allow the holder to stay for one to three months per visit.

The type of visa you need to obtain depends on the purpose of your trip. Turkey issues the following types of visas:

  • Transit
  • Tourist
  • Business
  • Work
  • Education
  • If you are arriving in Turkey by cruise ship for a day trip, you do not need a Turkey visa as long as you are not staying overnight.

The requirements for securing a visa vary based on the type of visa you need to obtain. Below is a list of the most common Turkish visa requirements.

If you apply by mail, you must include a pre-paid self-addressed envelope. Application processing time varies based on the type of visa for which you are applying.
