Tanzania Visa

All U.S. citizens traveling to Tanzania must have a Tanzania visa to gain entry into the country. Tourist visas can be obtained on arrival at many ports of entry, but the U.S. Department of State recommends obtaining your travel visa before you arrive, so you don’t experience long delays.

To secure a visa on arrival, you must have a passport valid for at least six months and a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving in Tanzania from an infected area.

If you are traveling to Tanzania for a reason other than tourism, you must secure your visa prior to arriving in the country. It is important that you obtain the appropriate type of visa for the purpose of your trip. Without it, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

When you submit your application for a Tanzania visa, you will be required to provide a variety of forms and documents in order for your application to be processed. The items you must submit vary based on the reason for your trip. Below is a list of documents that are commonly required to secure a visa.

  • Completed visa application form. It is important that you complete the application form in its entirety. Incomplete and inaccurate applications will not be processed, delaying the issuance of your visa.
  • Passport with at least six months validity remaining
  • Two passport photos
  • Proof of travel to and from Tanzania (e.g. round trip plane ticket, itinerary from a travel agent, etc.)
  • Visa fee
  • This list is not meant to be all-inclusive. You may be required to provide additional documents depending on the purpose of your visit. For the most up to date Tanzania visa requirements, visit the website of the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania.

    Submitting Your Application

When you have completed your application form and prepared the required documentation, you can submit your application in person at the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania, at a Tanzanian Consulate or by mail.

If you submit your application by mail, you must include a prepaid, self-addressed envelope, so your passport can be returned to you after your visa is issued.

Processing time is at least five business days. Rush service is available at the Embassy for a $20.00 fee and takes three business days.

The cost of a 12-month multiple entry visa for U.S. citizens is $100. All Tanzania visa fees are payable by cash, money order, credit card, debit card or personal check.

If you pay by credit card, debit card or personal check, a $2.00 fee will be assessed per transaction. If you pay by personal check, you must also submit your driver’s license or your visa application will not be processed.

Professional visa services make applying for a visa fast and easy. Authorized by foreign embassies and consulates to submit applications on behalf of their clients, visa companies are experts in the application process.

When you need to make sure your application is completed correctly the first time, a visa service like “company name” can help.

If you have questions at any time during the application process a representative will get you the answer you need, so you can complete your Tanzania visa application.

Some companies even have representatives available twenty four hours a day. Most services also have large databases of the most up to date visa requirements for nearly every country in the world, making it easy for you to identify the documents you need to submit with your visa application.
