Passport Fees and Information
Passport fees vary based on the type of passport for which you are applying and how quickly you want to receive it. Below is a guide to help you determine how much you can expect to pay when you apply for your passport.
If you are applying for your first adult passport book, there is a $110 application fee and a $25 execution fee, and you can use your passport book for any kind of international travel. If you only need to travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean by land or sea, you can get a passport card for $55, which includes a $30 application fee and a $25 execution fee. When you apply for a book and card at the same time the passport fees include a $140 application fee and a $25 execution fee.
The cost to renew an adult passport book is $110. The cost to renew an adult passport card is $30, and the cost to renew both is $140.
If you are applying for your first passport, you must do so in person at a passport acceptance facility or passport agency using form DS-11: Application for a U.S. Passport. U.S. passport renewals can usually be processed by mail using form DS-82. However, if you are not eligible to renew your passport by mail, you must renew it in person following the same process as someone who is applying for a passport for the first time.
The passport fees for a minor passport book include an $80 application fee and a $25 execution fee. A minor passport card costs $40, which includes a $15 application fee and a $25 execution fee. If you apply for both, you will be charged a $95 application fee and a $25 execution fee. Minor passports are valid for five years and cannot be renewed. When a minor passport expires, you will need to re-apply as if you are applying for the first time.
When you apply for a passport book or card, the average processing time is four to six weeks regardless of whether you are getting your first passport or renewing an existing one. In addition to the standard passport fees you are required to pay, you can have your application expedited through the U.S. government for a $60 fee. When you expedite your request, you can expect to receive your passport in two to three weeks. Keep in mind that all times are estimates, and it can take much longer to receive your passport, especially during peak application times throughout the year. It’s best to apply as far in advance of your trip as possible to ensure you receive your passport in time, so you don’t have to delay your travel plans.
Need to Get Your Passport Fast?
If you can’t wait for expedited service through the government, there is another alternative. When you work with a professional passport expediter like “easy service” you can usually get your passport in as little as 24 hours if necessary. In addition to the standard passport fees everyone is required to pay when they apply for a passport, there are additional costs associated with a professional expediter. The cost of working with an expediting service varies based on how quickly you need your passport. After you place your order with the passport expediter, you will send them your application and all of the documentation you are required to submit. They will take your application to the U.S. Passport Agency for processing. When your passport is issued, the expediter will pick it up from the passport agency and overnight it directly to you, so you will have it in time for your trip.
