Myanmar Visa

All U.S. citizens are required to have a Myanmar visa for entry into the country. You must secure your travel visa prior to arriving in the country. Visas are not issued on arrival. Myanmar issues the following types of non-official visas:

  • Tourist. Valid for three months from the date of issue for a stay of up to 28 days. Tourist visas cannot be extended.
  • Social Visit. Valid for three months for a stay of up to four weeks. Social visit visas are extendable. To extend a social visit visa, contact the Immigration Department in Yangon.
  • Business. Valid for three months for a stay of up to 10 weeks.
  • Meditation. Valid for three months for a stay of up to three months.
  • It is important that you secure the appropriate type of Myanmar visa based on the purpose of your trip. You will not be allowed to enter the country without the proper travel documents.

    Requirements

Requirements for obtaining a visa vary based on the type of visa for which you are applying and are subject to change at any time. Below is a list of items you can expect to provide at the time of application. This list is not exhaustive. For a list of the most up to date visa requirements, visit the website of the Embassy of the Union of Myanmar.

  • Completed application form. It is important that you complete this form accurately. Inaccurate and incomplete applications may not be processed and could delay the issuance of your visa.
  • Two passport photos taken within the last six months
  • Completed work history form
  • Applicable Myanmar visa fee
  • Copy of itinerary or round trip ticket showing proof of scheduled travel to Myanmar (tourist visa only)
  • Letter from your employer or the company you will be visiting in Myanmar explaining the purpose of your trip (business visa only)
  • Letter to the ambassador (social visit or meditation visa)
  • Completed biography form (social visit or meditation visa)

  • Original sponsor letter from the meditation center where you will be staying. (meditation visa)
  • Submitting an application for a visa does not mean one will be issued. The issuance of visas is at the discretion of Myanmar officials. According to the U .S. Department of State, applicants with “sensitive” professions, including journalists, are frequently denied visas.

    Submitting Your Application

After you have filled out your Myanmar visa application form and collected the supporting documentation you are required to provide, you can submit your application in person at the Myanmar Embassy or Mission or by mail. If you send your application by mail, you must include a prepaid, self-addressed FedEx return envelope, so your passport can be returned to you after your visa is issued. It takes approximately 10 business days for visa applications to be processed.

    Payment

Visa fees vary based on the type of visa for which you are applying. The cost of a tourist visa is $20, and the cost of a social visit, business or meditation visa is $30. Visa fees are payable by official check or money order only. Other forms of payment are not accepted.

    Visa Services

If you need help completing your Myanmar visa application, a professional visa service like “company name” can provide the assistance you’re looking for. Visa companies are authorized by foreign embassies to submit applications on behalf of their clients. They are also experts in the application process, and they make applying for a visa fast and easy.

Preparing your visa application can be confusing and overwhelming, especially if you have never applied for a visa before. Identifying the appropriate requirements can often be the most difficult part of the process. But it is also the most important because incomplete and inaccurate applications will not be processed, delaying the issuance of your visa and potentially your travel plans.

When you work with a visa service, a representative will review your application to make sure it is complete and accurate before it is submitted for processing, so you don’t experience any delays. After your Myanmar visa is issued, it will be mailed directly to you, so you can be on your way as scheduled.
