El Salvador Visa

All U.S. citizens need an El Salvador visa to enter the country for stays of more than 90 days. You can get your travel visa free of charge in advance of your trip from the El Salvador Embassy or one of the Salvadoran Consulates in the United States. For stays of up to 90 days, U.S. citizens need either a visa or a tourist card. Tourist cards can be purchased on arrival for $10.00 when you enter the country by air or sea. You must present a U.S. passport with at least six months validity remaining to purchase a tourist card when you arrive in El Salvador.


If you need a visa for your trip, you will be required to present the following items with your application:

  • Completed application form. The El Salvador visa application form is designed to gather a variety of information about the applicant, including biographical data, passport information and details about your trip to El Salvador.   • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay in El Salvador

Visa applications are denied for many reasons, including falsifying information, being considered a security threat, having a criminal record and a variety of others.

    After you have completed your application form and gathered the required supporting documentation, you can submit it to the Embassy of El Salvador in Washington, DC or one of the Salvadoran Consulates in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Long Island, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, or San Francisco. You should submit your application to the office that has jurisdiction over the state in which you live. Applications can either be submitted in person or by mail. However, if you send your application by mail, be sure to include a prepaid, self-addressed return envelope, so your El Salvador visa can be returned to you after it has been issued.
