All U.S. citizens need a Cambodia visa to enter the country. Cambodia issues the following types of travel visas to foreign nationals interested in visiting the country: diplomatic, official, courtesy, business and tourist. Tourist and business visas can be obtained prior to arriving in Cambodia or on arrival at the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports and various border checkpoints. Other types of visas must be secured before arriving in Cambodia. Tourist and business visas are good for one month from the date you enter Cambodia. Visas can be extended once you are in Cambodia, but you must get permission from the appropriate authorities. If you stay beyond the validity of your visa, you will be fined.
The items listed below are some of the most common Cambodia visa requirements. However, the list is not all-inclusive, and you may be required to provide additional documentation based on the type of visa for which you are applying.
Visa application form. Be sure the form is completed accurately. Incomplete or inaccurate applications will not be processed, delaying the issuance of your visa and possibly your travel plans.
U.S. passport with a validity of at least six months beyond the day you enter Cambodia
Two passport photos
Applicable visa fees (All U.S. citizens are required to have a visa to enter Cambodia. However there is no processing fee for visas issued to children under the age of 12.)
If you need to secure a business visa, you must provide a letter from your employer on company letterhead, and you may also be required to present an invitation from Cambodia
Submitting Your Application
If you are not eligible to obtain your Cambodia visa on arrival or you choose to secure it prior to your departure, there are three ways you can apply:
Online. If you need a tourist visa, you can apply online through the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s online e-visa site. (NOTE: You cannot apply for any other type of visa online.)
In person. You can bring your application to the Embassy of Cambodia for processing.
By Mail. You can submit your application to the Embassy of Cambodia by mail. If you mail your application, you must provide a pre-paid, self-addressed return envelope. The sender and receiver’s name and address on the return envelope must be the same. For the protection of your documents, your return envelope must be from one of the following services, so it can be traced: Certified Mail, Express Mail, FedEx, UPS, Airborne, or DHL.
Standard processing of Cambodia visa applications takes five business days. However, it can take longer when application volume is high.
The cost of a tourist visa is $20, and the cost of a business visa is $25. If you apply for your visa in person or by mail, you can pay by check or money order. If you apply for your visa online, you will be required to pay for your visa by credit card.
