If you have fewer than two to four blank visa pages remaining in your current, valid passport, you will need to add pages to passport before your next trip abroad. When you need additional passport pages, you have two options. You can request new pages be added to your existing passport using form DS-4085 or you can apply for a new passport book.
If you choose to add pages to your current passport book, you must complete Form DS-4085 and mail it with your current, valid passport book and the applicable fees to the address on the form. Click here to download the DS-4085 Form
Applying for a new passport book is recommended for U.S. citizens who travel frequently. When you apply for a new book, do not use form DS-4085. Instead use form DS-82 if you are eligible to renew your passport by mail. Send the form along with a written request to add pages to passport, your current passport, a passport photo and the appropriate fees to the address on the form.
If you are not eligible to renew your passport by mail, you cannot use form DS-82. Instead you must use form DS-11 and apply for a new book in person at a passport acceptance facility or passport agency. U.S. passport applications are accepted by appointment only at passport agencies. Make sure you call ahead to schedule your appointment.
Whether you choose to add pages to your existing passport or apply for a new book, it will take an average of two to six weeks to get your extra passport pages. When you add pages to passport using form DS-4085 or apply for a new book by mail or at a passport acceptance facility, you must decide whether you want to have your application processed using routine or expedited service.
Routine service takes about four to six weeks. For a $60 fee, the U.S. government will expedite your application, and you can get your passport in two to three weeks. When you apply for your extra pages at a passport agency, you will usually get your passport the same day you apply, but there are no guarantees.
If you need to have your passport in less than two weeks and you can’t get to a passport agency to apply on your own, there is another way you can get your passport quickly. You can authorize a professional passport expediting service like Its Easy Passport Service to add pages to passport for you. Professional expediters are registered with the State Department to hand carry passport applications to the U.S. passport agency on behalf of U.S. citizens.
Working with a professional expediter is easy and fast. When you place your order, choose the type of passport you need and how quickly you need it. After your order has been processed a representative from the expediting service will contact you to let you know exactly what you need to submit so your application can be processed. Simply send them the information and your work is done.
They will contact you when they receive your materials to review your application and make sure there are no errors so you don’t experience any delays. Afterward, they will submit your application to add pages to passport to the U.S. passport agency for processing. When your passport has been issued, they will mail it to you, so you can be on your way.
Remember, if you are a frequent traveler who is applying for a new passport book using form DS-11, you must appear before a passport acceptance agent before you can send your application materials to the expediting service. The acceptance agent will confirm your identity and witness you sign your application. Then he/she will place your application and supporting documentation in a sealed envelope that you can provide to the expediter. Make sure you factor the extra time that is required to appear before an acceptance agent into your timeline for getting your passport.
