Latvia Foreign Entry Requirements

If you are planning a trip to Latvia, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the Latvia foreign entry requirements before you arrive.

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter the country and must declare all cash over 10,000 Euros. In addition, you may be required to secure a residency permit depending on the length of your stay.

Without the appropriate documentation, you may not be allowed entry into Latvia. Additional information is included below. However, entry requirements are subject to change. For the most up to date information, contact the Latvian Embassy or visit the website of the Embassy of Latvia.

Passport

All U.S. citizens are required to have a passport valid for at least three months beyond their scheduled stay to enter the country. If you do not have a passport or your existing passport is damaged or does not have the requisite amount of validity, you must obtain a new one before arriving in Latvia to satisfy the Latvia foreign entry requirements.

Because Latvia is part of the Schengen agreement, after entering the country, U.S. citizens can travel freely among all Schengen countries for up to 90 days without having to show their travel documents again. However, you should keep your passport with you because officials have the right to conduct random passport checks.

Customs Declaration

If you are traveling with the equivalent of more than 10,000 Euros in cash, you must declare it to customs officers when you enter and/or exit Latvia.

Visa

U.S. citizens may enter Latvia without a visa if the purpose of their visit is tourism or business and they are staying for 90 days or less within a six-month period.

Residence Permit

According to the Latvia foreign entry requirements, if you are staying in the country for more than 90 days within six months, you must secure a residence permit for your trip.
