Kiribati Foreign Entry Requirements

If you are planning a trip to Kiribati, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the Kiribati foreign entry requirements before you arrive. Without the proper documentation, you may not be allowed to enter the country.

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport, onward/return ticket and evidence of sufficient funds to enter Kiribati. Additional information about these requirements is included below.

However, entry requirements are subject to change. For the most up to date information, contact the Consulate of the Republic of Kiribati or visit the Kiribati National Tourism Office website.

Passport

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter Kiribati. If you do not have a passport or your current passport has been damaged or will expire before your trip, you must obtain a new one before arriving.

When to Apply

Because a valid passport is one of the Kiribati foreign entry requirements, it is a good idea to apply well in advance of your trip to ensure you do not experience any unnecessary delays. However, in general you can expect to receive your passport within two to six weeks of submitting your application.

When you apply for a passport, you must choose routine or expedited service. Routine service takes about four to six weeks and expedited services takes about two to three weeks. However, these times are only estimates. It may take longer to process your application at peak travel times throughout the year.

Onward/Return Ticket

You may be asked to present proof of onward travel or a return ticket to the United States upon arrival in Kiribati.

Evidence of Sufficient Funds

According to the Kiribati foreign entry requirements, you must be able to provide evidence of sufficient funds for the entire length of your stay in Kiribati.
