Guinea-Bissau Foreign Entry Requirements
If you will be traveling to Guinea-Bissau, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the Guinea-Bissau foreign entry requirements before your trip.
If you do not have the appropriate documentation, you may not be allowed to enter the country. All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport, visa and proof of onward travel/return ticket.
Additional information about these requirements is included below. However, entry requirements are subject to change. For the most up to date information, you should contact a Bissau-Guinean Embassy.
However, according to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs website, the Embassy in Washington, D.C. suspended its operations in January 2007.
All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter Guinea-Bissau. If you do not have a passport or your current passport is damaged or will expire before your trip, you must obtain a new one before leaving the United States.
When to Apply
Because a valid passport is one of the Guinea-Bissau foreign entry requirements, it is a good idea to apply for your passport as far in advance of your trip as possible.
When you apply, there are two processing options—routine and expedited. If you choose routine processing, it will take approximately four to six weeks to receive your passport. If you choose expedited processing, it will take approximately two to three weeks.
However, these timelines are only estimates. It can take longer to receive your passport if you apply when application volume is high.
You must have a valid visa to enter the country. However because there is no Embassy in the United States, the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs website recommends securing a visa at a Bissau-Guinean Embassy in a country you must transit to get to Guinea-Bissau.
Proof of Onward Travel/Return Ticket
According to the Guinea-Bissau foreign entry requirements, you must be able to show proof of onward travel or a return ticket to the United States when you arrive.
