Gambia Foreign Entry Requirements

If you are planning a trip to Gambia, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the Gambia foreign entry requirements before you arrive.

Without the proper documentation, you may not be allowed to enter the country. All U.S. citizens are required to have a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate, valid passport and visa to enter the country.

Additional information about these requirements is included below. However, entry requirements are subject to change. For the most up to date information, contact the Gambian Embassy or visit the website of the Embassy of Gambia.

Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate

Upon arrival in Gambia, U.S. citizens must show proof that they have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever.

Passport

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter Gambia. If you do not have a passport or your current passport is damaged or will expire before your trip, you must obtain a new one before you arrive.

Visa

According to the Gambia foreign entry requirements, all U.S. citizens need a visa to enter the country. The U.S. Department of State recommends securing your visa before you arrive to prevent delays.

However, according to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs website, if you do not have a visa when you arrive in Gambia, you may be allowed to enter the country, but you will need to obtain a visa from the Department of Immigration within two days of arriving in the country.

When you apply for a visa, you will be required to submit a variety of forms and supporting documents, so your application can be processed. Below is a list of items that are commonly required to secure a visa to meet the Gambia foreign entry requirements.

Requirements

  • Completed visa application form. It is important that you complete this form in its entirety. Incomplete and inaccurate applications will not be processed, delaying the issuance of your visa and possibly your travel plans.
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Passport photo taken within the last six months. Be sure to write your name and passport number on the back of your photo and sign it.
  • Visa application fee
  • This list is not meant to be all-inclusive. Additional documents may be required depending on the reason for your travel. Consular officials may require applicants to interview in person or by phone prior to issuing a visa.
