Ecuador Foreign Entry Requirements

When you are planning a trip to Ecuador, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the Ecuador foreign entry requirements before you arrive. If you do not meet the necessary requirements, you may not be allowed to enter the country.

U.S. citizens visiting Ecuador must present a valid passport for entry into the country and may be asked to show a return/onward ticket. You may also need a visa depending on the length of your trip.

Additional information about these requirements is included below. However, entry requirements are subject to change. For the most up to date information, contact the Ecuador Embassy or visit the website of the Embassy of Ecuador.

Passport

All U.S. citizens traveling to Ecuador need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity remaining to enter the country.

Return/Onward Ticket

According to the Ecuador foreign entry requirements, in some cases, officials may ask to see a return ticket to the United States or evidence of travel beyond Ecuador.

Visa

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling to Ecuador for business or tourism, you do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. However, if you are staying for longer than 90 days or traveling for a reason other than business or tourism, you must obtain a visa before arriving in Ecuador.

When you apply for your visa, you will be required to submit a variety of forms and supporting documents, so your visa can be issued, and you can meet the Ecuador foreign entry requirements.

The exact visa requirements vary depending on the type for which you are applying. However, below is a list of items that are commonly required to secure an Ecuador visa.

Visa Requirements

  • Completed application form. Make sure you complete the form in its entirety. If your application is incomplete or inaccurate, it will not be processed, and you will be required to re-submit it.

  • Two passport photos on a white background
