Bulgaria Foreign Entry Requirements

If you are planning a trip to Bulgaria, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the Bulgaria foreign entry requirements before you arrive.

If you have not satisfied the necessary requirements, you will not be allowed to enter the country. All U.S. citizens should have proof of medical insurance and a passport on arrival, and you may also need a visa depending on the length of your stay.

Additional information about these requirements is included below. However, entry requirements are subject to change. For the most up to date information, contact the Bulgarian Embassy or visit the website of the Embassy of Bulgaria.

According to the website of the Embassy of Bulgaria, U.S. citizens may be asked to present proof of medical insurance covering the length of their stay in Bulgaria.

If you leave the country after staying there for 90 days, you will not be allowed to re-enter until after the six-month period is up.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs website, you can file an extension to stay longer, but you must submit your application to the local police at least five days before the end of the original 90-day period in the country.

According to the Bulgaria foreign entry requirements, if you are traveling on a regular passport, and you are going to live or work in Bulgaria for more than 90 days in a six-month period or more than six months in a year, you must secure a “D” visa before arriving.
