Brunei Foreign Entry Requirements

When you are planning a trip to Brunei, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the Brunei foreign entry requirements prior to arriving.

All U.S. citizens are required to have a passport for entry into the country, and you may be required to have a visa depending on the length of your stay. Additional information about the requirements is outlined below.

However, entry requirements are subject to change at any time. For the most up to date information, contact the Brunei Embassy or visit the website of the Embassy of Brunei before your trip.

All U.S. citizens need a passport with at least six months validity remaining when traveling to Brunei. If you have never been issued a passport, your previous passport was lost or stolen, your existing passport is damaged or your current passport does not have the requisite validity, you must get a new one before arriving in Brunei.

According to the Brunei foreign entry requirements, U.S. citizens traveling to Brunei for less than 90 days do not require a visa.

However, if you are staying for 90 days or more, you need a visa for entry into the country. If you do require a visa for your trip, you must obtain it before arriving in Brunei.

When you apply for a visa, you will be required to provide a variety of forms and supporting documents, so your application can be processed. Below is a list of items that are commonly required to secure a Brunei visa.

Visa Requirements

  • Completed application form. It is important that you complete this form in its entirety. Incomplete and inaccurate application forms will not be processed, delaying the issuance of your visa.
  • Not only is a valid passport one of the Brunei foreign entry requirements, it is also a requirement to secure a Brunei visa. Your passport must have at least six blank visa pages and be valid for at least six months beyond your scheduled date of entry into Brunei.
  • Passport photo
  • Letter explaining the purpose of your visit
  • Itinerary and flight schedule
  • Visa fee
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (if applicable)
  • This list is not meant to be all-inclusive. You may be required to provide additional documentation depending on the purpose of your trip. For the most up to date visa requirements, visit the website of the Embassy of Brunei.

    Submitting Your Application

After you have completed your application and gathered the required supporting documentation, you must submit your application materials to the Brunei Embassy in person or by mail for processing, so your visa can be issued and you can meet the Brunei foreign entry requirements.

Applications submitted by mail must be sent by certified or overnight mail and must include a prepaid, self-addressed envelope, so your travel documents can be returned to you when they are issued. In general, it takes approximately seven business days to process visa applications. However, it can take longer.
